When considering a donation, it's crucial to assess the health of your hybrid vehicle's high-voltage (HV) battery. Many older hybrid models, such as the Toyota Prius, operate on NiMH batteries, while newer ones utilize lithium-ion packs. Depending on the vehicle's age and usage, HV battery replacement costs can range from $2,000 to $6,000. Typically, vehicles with over 100,000 miles, especially those without a history of regular maintenance, may require a battery assessment prior to donation. Be mindful that while we accept vehicles with dead hybrid batteries, their valuation will be significantly lower.
EV-specific pickup logistics
We make the donation process seamless. Our team will arrange for a flatbed tow to pick up your vehicle, ensuring the hybrid system is safely disconnected before transport. If you have the charging cable, including it with your donation is appreciated. For non-running hybrids, we can manage pickups without issues. If you prefer, you may also have your vehicle pre-inspected by a Tesla Service Center or a local dealership to ensure everything is in order before the donation.

The value of your donated hybrid vehicle will depend on several factors, including the state of the high-voltage battery, odometer reading, body condition, and specific features such as trim level and any advanced technologies. Well-maintained models such as the Toyota Prius often retain higher resale values despite age, while hybrids with dead HV packs can still have salvage value, albeit significantly lower. For models eligible for appraisal, like certain Teslas, Form 8283 Section B will be utilized to detail their worth for tax purposes.
